hi iam on the waiting list to have a prolapsed disc done at L5/S1, i now have terrible pain in my right foot all along the edge and under neath and also part way up the side of my leg is this conected because its terrible, if it is i will have to go ahead i cannot cope with this pain killers are not touching it i can barely walk, thanks

Edge of your foot is innervated by S1 nerve. So, answer is YES, this is most probably caused by your herniation.

Painkillers won't help much you need to see your gp asap to let them know of the change and then they may try you on a different type of medication that targets nerve pain.

Sorry to hear you are getting more problems, but they are related and mean your disc is probably getting worse

hi, thanks but already on pregablin for nerve pain so i will ring surgeons secretary on monday and see if i can get it sooner than 3 months.

Sure they are related in the general sense, but there are plenty of other mechanisms besides the s1 nerve root. For example, strain to peroneal muscles and fixation of the joints of the fibula due to altered gait, piriformis syndrome for the same reason, referred pain, trigger points, shin splints, DVT to name a few. It's not okay to diagnose this over the web.

BMW1, I would repeat the view that it would be a good idea to seek a second opinion from another surgeon, and also to continue to consider your other options. Good luck and best wishes. This development perhaps increases the need for answers quickly, it may or may not change those answers.

(I note the context form your earlier threads, that you had a worsening from earlier surgery and the same surgeon was proposing to do more, with limited assurance of success.)
