Renee Royal with her massage items at Health in Harmony in Lincoln Square Village in Urbana on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016.
An area woman has opened a massage and therapeutic stretching business in downtown Urbana.
Independent contractor and licensed massage therapist Renee Royal has set up shop inside the Health In Harmony wellness center at Lincoln Square.
"I provide Swedish massages, deep tissue massages, Thai massages and therapeutic stretching," said Royal, who moved to Urbana from the Washington, D.C., area.
"I also provide workshops on Thai massages."
A Thai massage involves hand and finger pressure, joint mobilization and deep stretching to invigorate and relieve aches and pains.
Royal, who has a background in mindfulness training and holistic self-care, said she came to Champaign-Urbana to study Iyengar yoga. She liked the area so much that she decided to open her own massage business.
"A massage provides many benefits," she said. "It can lower stress, help the immune system, balance hormones and improve the overall well-being." she said.
"A massage is a great way for people who lead busy lives to maintain their overall wellness. After a day filled with stress, aches and pains, a massage will leave you feeling better."
Royal is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
For an appointment, call her at 344-9144.
Whimsy in St. Joseph
A mother and daughter in St. Joseph have launched a business dedicated to creativity, painting and decorative door hangers.
A. J. Wronke and daughter Jo Wronke had so much fun creating their own door hangers that they decided to make a business out of it.
Whimsy By Design Whimsy Paint Party helps create parties at homes, bars and restaurants where participants paint their own door hangers. Each party lasts for two and a half to three hours.
The mom and daughter also organize open painting sessions, do custom orders and plan private paint parties.
"Jordan and I had been painting for four years, but we recently began doing traveling parties in people's homes," A. J. Wronke said. "We also go to different restaurants and bars."
She said working with door hangers is a change of pace from traditional canvas painting.
"We paint on whimsical designs cut from metal," she said. "We believe everyone has an independent expression of who they are. Our goal is to capture the uniqueness, personality and expression on their Whimsy by Design door decor."
Some party participants put the door hangers on their own front doors at home. Others paint their hangers as gifts. "We make it, take it and put a bow on it," she said.
For people less creatively inclined, the Whimsy By Design team can do custom orders. Prices range from $40 to $70.

70 years with Terminix
Monday will mark a milestone for the local Terminix franchises.
For the past seven decades, Terminix has been protecting area homeowners from termites and pests and the devastation they can cause.
It all began in 1946 when Dean Fulton purchased the Terminix franchises for Champaign and Danville.
In 1971, Dean's son, Bill Fulton, took over the business. Bill then purchased the franchises from his dad one year later.
Dean Fulton is now 98 years old and lives in Florida.
Then in 2003, Bill Fulton's nephew, also named Bill Fulton, purchased the Champaign and Danville businesses.
On Monday, the same Fulton family will have owned the Terminix franchises for 70 years, and the company is planning a celebration from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign.
While the elder Bill Fulton describes the event as a company birthday party (all 45 employees will be there), the program will also include a series of speakers about Terminix.
"We are calling it a spring kickoff," Bill Fulton said. "Terminix has been in existence for 89 years, and we are the only franchise with the same family for 70 years."
