ITEC IHM Course when pregnant

Hi everyone

I'm considering doing an ITEC IHM course which will start in April, however, my husband and I thinking about trying for baby number 2 in the new year, and I wondered how I would get on with the course if I fell pregnant. It's an intensive course - weekends only for 4 weeks.

I competed the Holistic Massage course when 6 months pregnant, and I'm thinking IHM can't be any more strenuous than that was?

Advice from those in the know would be appreciated!

Hi Susie. I'm a massage therapist and 26 weeks pregnant. I recently completed a Level 3 CIBTAC massage course. I was 12 weeks pregnant when I sat my practical and written exam. I got pregnant halfway through the course and when I explained to my tutor that I was pregnant she was really good. We had to practice on each other and I was comfortable lying on my front when my partner was practicing the back massage (just needed a rolled-up towel under my boobs as they were really tender).

IHM isn't as strenuous as sports massage so I personally wouldn't see there being any problem with you being able to participate in the lessons, unless of course you weren't feeling well in yourself. This is my third child and each of my pregnancy's has been different. I think the main thing is to listen to your body and see how you feel.

That's really helpful. Funnily enough I did really want to do a Sports Massage course, but think I will have to knock that one on the head until after the baby! IHM is a good compromise - I can continue learning and building my skills without putting myself under too much pressure. Just hope I feel as well as I did with my last pregnancy - but as you rightly say, each one is different!!

I have Just started a ihm course and im 11 weeks pregnant its not a contra indication and all done in a chair and not to strenueous moves you will be fine.
