ITEC qualification not acceptable!

Hi I hope someone can help,

Is anyone having the same trouble as me regarding the ITEC qualification not being acceptable to many societies, federations, blah,blah,blah!

Nearly every one of the organisations require me to do a bridging course just so I could join them, I thought ITEC was a highly recognised, international qualification.

I was just going to join the FHT but would really like to be a member of a specific reflexology governing body.

Does anyone else think that it's about time the numerous organisations ( I have the details of at least 7!) were merged into one official body?

Quite right, CazD.

I understand that the Reflexology organisations are trying (very![]) to form a global organisation BUT they all think that their individual ways are the best and do not seem to want to compromise and get on with it.

Hi Caz and welcome. I don't see why you are having a problem with this?

I have ITEC reflexology and I run my own complementary health centre and I am happy to take on therapists with ITEC, VTCT or AOR or other qualifications. As long as you get insurance it isn't a problem.

The AOR etc do ask you to do a bridging course to get membership, but you don't have to do it. ITEC is a very good qualification and if you look back at old threads you will see the subject hotly debated!

You should have no problem either working for yourself, working at a clinic or any other place that offers therapies.

Eventually all the different bodies will merge but it will take some time. A lot of AOR reflexologists have studied with ITEC anyway, they just do a different exam at the end of their course. Be proud of your qualification, I know you will have worked very hard to get it and it is well known and highly regarded.

I've never heard of ITEC not being acceptable anywhere. I'm sure they are represented by the reflexology forum but maybe I'm wrong.

The reflexology forum has been set up to ensure that standards amongst all of the reflexology societies remain high.

I agree with Candie - why bother with the AoR - just stick with your ITEC - I'm sure you worked hard for it. Be proud of the qualification you have. In my opinion the AoR seems to have the reflexology market all wrapped up, don't know why but I see no real reason to join the AoR even though they do recognise my qualification (IIR).

I rang ITEC and they said they would contact AoR on my behalf but I've decided just to stick with being with the FHT.
