itunes newbie question?

I just downloaded "itunes" to use to play mp3s on my desktop PC - I am not downloading anything, I already have a ton of mp3s I want to play on it - I'm just not sure after reading the pop ups and menus - does it send info somewhere of all the mp3s I have? Like I have some I converted off CDs, does it send the info that I have some mp3s somewhere that I have some music I'm playing on the itunes player that wasn't "purchased" somewhere on line? I'm not sure how this works. I will not be buying anything but I'm sure some of these mp3s don't have "album covers" nor do I care about album covers but I see it's going to download them so what's the "connection" and info relaying process? iTunes does not share your information. Album covers are acquired by itunes talking to the internet, or whatev, but it does not share your information, only information in order to tell it which cover to get, and the album covers dont even cost anything. yay!

Fear not. iTunes doesn't send any information about the music you're playing except to query the Internet CD Database (when you insert a music CD) or if you've asked it to download album artwork for your music. And you can turn off those options if you like.

Apple does not care where your music came from (unless you buy it from Apple), how often you play it, how loud you play it, or any number of other things it COULD send, but doesn't.

In the years I've had iTunes (I remember when it was a non-Apple program called SoundPlay), I've only purchased a handful of music from Apple. But I have an extensive collection of CDs and podcasts I have downloaded, and steaming audio radio stations I record, and never has Apple ever even hinted that it was interested in my activity.
