Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed a Tuscaloosa Police lieutenant to serve on a state board that regulates massage therapy businesses.
TPD Lt. Darren Beams will serve a two-year term on the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy.
Beams heads the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force and has led local law enforcement efforts to combat and educate the public about human trafficking.
Ivey made the appointment in February, which was confirmed by the Alabama Senate on Wednesday.
โI am extremely honored by this appointment from Gov. Ivey,โ Beame said, โand I will faithfully, and diligently serve.
โHuman Trafficking takes on many forms, and is prevalent in the massage industry in many states across the country. This appointment is a direct result of the hard work by the men and women who serve on the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force.โ
