London, Jun 30 (PTI) Troubled actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was rushed to hospital after a suspected suicide attempt by overdosing on unspecified pills at his home.
The 33-year-old ''Bend It Like Beckham'' star, who has been in-and-out of rehab five times for alcohol problems, was taken away by an ambulance to a facility near his home.
Paramedics answering a 999 call found him slumped on the floor and had to call police after he refused treatment at the scene for more than 30 minutes, reported Sun online.
"This is very sad. It was the opinion of those present that he tried to take his life," a source said.
He was discharged in the early hours yesterday. When asked later how he was, red-eyed Meyers said, "No comment."
"I saw the ambulance arriving and was worried to death. Jonathan is a lovely guy. You see him all the time in the street. He says hello and is very pleasant. I hope he is fine," said a neighbour.
Earlier this month the ''Tudors'' star checked into a rehabilitation centre in South Africa - his fifth stint in rehab.
The Irish actor has earlier spoken about his alcoholic ways, saying, "When I do drink I''m like Bambi. I''m all over the place like a 16-year-old kid."
The Scotland Yard confirmed that they were called by "London Ambulance Service following reports of a man refusing treatment. The man was taken to hospital."
Really enjoyed his work in The Tudors as well as various other roles he has done.
I hope he can pull through this and overcome his problems and continue to entertain us for many years to come.
