It's always a good idea to bring a Mandarin speaking friend to a KTV because he will do most of the negotiation, read the drink and food menus, communicate with the manager, mamasan, girls about prices, rates, etc.

The incident mentioned usually happens near wanfujiang street.
There are lot of scams like wanting to learn english, do you need a guide etc.
All these girls are non pro and will not put out. I was also approached many times. I reply saying if you come to my room I can help you. None of them have taken up the offer. I was taken advaneforum.xxxe of one girl which cost me 600 RMB in a bar which should have cost me 200 RMB.
In beijing go to the bars only to pick up girls. KTV is good if you know how to navigate and be firm.

When you are walking around, there are a lot of people will approach you and tell you the nice place to go for fun such as KTV, "bar" or place for meeting girls......the places that they are referring to are only a short taxi ride away or within a short walk..no minimum amount that you had to spend, girls are only RMB100 no matter how long they stay with you and can do anything, beers are only RMB20 per bottle, etc.

Whenever you hear these kind of sales pitch...ignore those bastards and run. They will rip you off with all kinds of way -- some of the girls may look innocent but they are definately pro...asking you to buy cigarettes, drinks, etc...even you told them no more drinks, they will bring in drinks anyway that cost a few hundred a glass...the prices are absolutely out of the world.

You will not able to leave the "place" until you had paid the bill that cost a few thousand dollars.....even you report to the police, they will do anything as some of them are brided...trust me...speaking from experience.
