The University of Kansas announced Thursday that it has started an internal investigation after the recent arrest of a massage therapist who was contracted to provide massage therapy services to some of the university's women's athletic teams."On Sunday, a local media organization published a story detailing the arrest of a local massage therapist who was subsequently charged with one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Though the story was unrelated to KU, the arrest was alarming to us because, since 2015, the therapist has been providing massage therapy services to some of our womenโs athletics teams as an independent contractor. His contract has been terminated," said a letter from Chancellor Douglas A. Girod and Athletic Director Jeff Long. The university said that after learning of the arrest, officials started an internal investigation into the therapist's ties with Kansas Athletics. Student-athletes were contacted."Though still in the early stages of this process, we are deeply troubled by what we have learned so far. At this time, we are providing support to our student-athletes, parents and staff who have been impacted by this therapistโs association with the university. While we are unable to share additional information at this time, we felt a responsibility to share these general developments with you now," the letter continues. The university said it will continue to investigate the massage therapist's conduct and whether there was any inappropriate behavior.
