Well, it sounds too good to be true. While Massage Warehouse has the $50 dollar coupon for them I may get one. Anyone tried this facerest yet? I'd love to hear what you think.

The website has just the Kurve face rest pad for $35 but the base is sold separately, don't remember the cost on that. The coupon I see is on page 10 of the Winter '05 catalog at the bottom right hand corner of the page. So that would be $50 off the list price of $129.99. Also, I reviewed their returns policy in the back of this catalog and they guarantee satisfaction or money back within 30 days.

I believe (I can't find my catalog....I think I left it at the clinic) that the $50 off is only good when you're buying a table. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been tempted to get this, even with paying $129 for it IF it works as it claims to. I'm also wondering which tables this would fit since different table manufacturers place the holes that the face rest plugs into at different widths apart. For instance, when I purchased an Oakworks face cradle we had to re-drill the holes in my Touch America table so it would fit.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has purchased one of these.

There are 2 different "coupons" for the system. One is $100 off if you are buying a table at the same time.

The other is $50 off if you are not buying a table.

FYI: it looks like it is made individually to fit the different types of tables, moogie. You can select which type of table you have. So in your case... I think you would just select Oakworks, since those are the "holes" you have now.

I still want to hear opinions from someone about this cradle before purchasing, though.

Update12/15/05: I had a few problems trying to order this item through MW and mentioned it here, so that you would know the correct cost on the product. MW has their new website up and running, and I was informed the ordering process should work just fine now! Just wanted to let you know.

I've had the same problem with the MW website many times. If you try to order online often the sale price doesn't make it to the final page. This isn't a new problem but an ongoing one.

I usually end up ordering via the phone and complaining to the service rep but it doesn't change anything.

Kurve face rest

I purchased this about two months ago (when I first saw it in the Massage Warehouse catalog) and I would say the feedback from my clients is great. I myself tried it out by lying down on my table and I do see a difference. I love the fact that there are eye "wells" (don't know what they call them, but they are indentations where your eyes would be) since I wear contacts and sometimes find that directly lying with my eyes on something bothers me a bit. The Kurve is much more comfortable. I previously used the memory foam facerest that MW offers in their "professional pack" and liked it, but I like the Kurve better. The foam on the Kurve feels softer and the angle of the support definitely is better.

Two downsides: the fitted facecradle covers do not fit "smoothly," since the Kurve is a slightly different shape. I just smooth them out as best I can and I haven't had any complaints, since the memory foam is so forgiving. I might try using the flat fleece covers this winter, which would probably eliminate any wrinkling against the face. I also have to tell my clients to pull the sides apart if they need more breathing room, but that's extremely easy to do.

The other downside is that the frame that holds the cradle makes noise (clicking, as it's a tight fit on my Oakworks Nova table) as I raise and lower it. But through trial and error, I discoverd that if I just pull it out away from the table a bit before raising it and locking it in place, it's not much noisier than my old one.

All in all, I'm very happy with it. I wish it fit my Avila II chair, as I would love to use it there, too, but it is industry-specific. The one that I bought for Oakworks doesn't work on Avila. Oh, well.

I received my Kurve for an Earthlite table. So far, the clients that have used it say that it does distribute the pressure evenly on the face and 2 have fallen asleep in it. One client said "I can't see the floor with this one" and didn't like that aspect of it. I will echo the previous post re. the facerest covers; I'm ordering some of the flat fleece drape type covers. Overall thus far, I'm very satisfied. IMO well worth the $79 price eforum.xxx.

Boiance

I was going to by a Kurve when I saw an ad for Boiance. I called and spoke to Patricia and have decided to try one of these instead. (As soon as I get through the Christmas spending that is.) Apparently, the internal structure is multi-layered foam with liquid "spheres" for support.
I appreciated the fact that she is a therapist and I like supporting small business.
Anyone try one of these? I'd love to hear experiences or a comparison.

yep, i use the boiance. i really like it. i posted on another thread about this product. i think it's as comfortable as any face rest can be. i like it better than anything i've used thus far. my last face rest that i used was a memory foam thing. i liked that too but i think the boiance is better and my clients really seem to like it. the "liquid spheres" are really nice. of course you're not supposed to take them out but i did. they are a lot like the hand held gel balls that you use to help improve hand strength. they're a bit squishier than that.

Thanks for the feedback re: the face rest. I'd love to hear more comments about it. I'm still considering getting one. (Its on my wish list for sure!)

Side note: I think MW was aware of the issue with their website being slow and hard to navigate. They just released their updated version of the website. The brief perusal of the site and its much faster and easier to navigate! I'm sure they worked on other bugs that were in the system.

Though I am a certified MT, I don't like the face rest as a client. It's small, and I can't breathe well with it. It often folds in on nose, lips, mouth area and needs to be streatched apart.

This is a late posting but I had tried that face rest system and hated it. I sent it back.

Now I use a memory foam face rest and e veryone seems to really like it. The covers fit it fine also.

I, too, hated the Kurve face rest system at first. The pillow that came with it left almost no breathing room and was very uncomfortable. But then I experimented and found that if I used the base of the Kurve system with the Kur memory foam pillow from Massage Warehouse, and then topped it with a fleece face rest cover, I had the ultimate in comfort.

Interestingly, I hadn't much liked the Kur pillow on a flat base. But with the Kurve base, it's magic. Plus, something else I like about the Kurve base is that it lifts high enough that I can also use it with my bodyCushion support system, or I can lower it to work with the flat table.

So, my advice? Buy just the base and get the Kur pillow to go with it, plus a fleece face cradle cover. Your clients will love it.

Addendum: Kurve/Kur great combo on SOME tables

As an addendum to my earlier post, the Kurve/Kur combination doesn't work well with all tables. It has to do with the amount of foam/padding on the table and the exact placement of the dowel holes relative to the table surface. It works brilliantly with my Earthlite Ellora table, with and without the extra 2" of extra padding I've added to the table. It worked very well with my Ellora and the bodyCushion support system. However, it could not raise high enough to accomodate my table WITH the extra foam AND the bodyCushion.

My office also has a new Custom Craftworks electric table with the best foam package they offer, and the Kurve/Kur combination is a bit high for that, even at its lowest setting. It's slightly uncomfortable, and clearly we'd need to add extra foam to the table to raise the client high enough to accomodate the face rest. We also had the same problem with an older Golden Ratio table. (It's only slightly uncomfortable, however. By pulling it out further from the table and tilting it further into flexion, I was able to have an entire massage session without too much discomfort. But it just wasn't perfect. Much would depend on the client's body type, however.)

So I still stand by the fact that it's the most comfortable face rest I've ever had....if it lines up just right with the surface of your table. If you're willing to play with adding extra foam if needed, then go for it. Might as well try. MassageWarehouse would probably take it back if it didn't work for you.
