Wow I have had a mental ten days and will have a story and problem I will hopefully start to look back on. I have now had the operation and was done by a neurosurgeon not the other type of surgeon as beleive me I had spoken two two people now who had done in London by the oher type of surgeon and bot had experienced problems so if possible insist on a nurosurgeon. I went in on the Thursday nil by mouth that midnight and then had a long wait I'll 2pm untill I had my surgery. My anethetist were excellant and said cos I'd taken so much morpheine as a painkiller I will be totally ok and will not be sick which I found very re-assuring so in I went almost strapped to the wheely thing and asleep I went.*
I awoke a 515pm to as always a nice nurse by my bedside and demanded in a nice way of course Water Water. I chatted houses as I was an estate agent and didn't know what to do my head was spinning but they said all gone well and taken back to the ward by 540 in time for tomato soup bread and lots of ORALMORPH in a syringe to the mouth "very night club I thought" anyhow I awoke with airboots on that are like the blood preasure machine but as a boot and they deaflat & inflate every 30 odd seconds and was just tired and sleepy and I could feel a difference but just had to sleep as was I guess of of it on he medication. The next day I awoke at 7 am damm tellys in hosptals. And thought ohh no leg pain but also tender and delicate. I was fed 2 weetabix and at 9am air boots off and I was standing. Much to my amazement I felt so different and had a very small walk about and then it was back into bed. Around 11am the surgeon came in and checked all was ok looked at the wound and said all is well & to try and het about as much as I can that day, the drip blood overflow thing was removed from my back and I was in the shower at midday ready to accept visitors at three all in all it went succsesful.*
Things I did notice straight away
1. I'd gone from all the medication I was taking to oralmorph and paracetamol.*
2. My sciatic leg pain had dramatically reduced from a constant 70% to 80% to nearer 10%
3. My back pain had also been releived but a new tenderness and almost like a feeling of nerves settling and I could feel my back had been messed about with*
4. A sense of at last that I'd waited for since may 28 th this year when it went from back pain to what the surgeon described after as a massive prolapse.*
I was in hospital untill the Monday 3pm as had to consult the occupational therapist and just to have an eye kept on me. The surgeons again came saw me and again were very happy with how things went and that was it I was on my way home.*
After I got home I had a real week of comedown of he drugs I had taken previously taken and was in bed for a day then around the Thursday I started to feel powerfull and more confident with how everything had gone and was walking nicely. Had straightened up alot. And apart from smelling like I'd been on a building site all day from the sweats I felt good. It must of been Saturday morning I felt so good I even managed a shave and to put normal clothes on which made me feel even better and everyhing had gone well.
Other slight things I discovered
Before you maybe have the operation I had grown so used to sleeping on my left hip I can still feel the soreness on it as I think that was masked by the drugs but do try and sleep on both hips or ya back if possible.*
Stick to the physio plan like clockwork and if u can like I did stop taking painkillers as long term they only gonna slow down my recovery.*
If you can make sure u have plenty to do and be prepaired for the bum wee, nightmares / crazy dreams, restless nights and the odd niggle and twitch from time to time as everything settles as I'm just 29 I feel lucky as my wound healed great and by he following weekend " the one just gone" I was walking lots and feeling so much better for gettin all that crappy medication through my system. Today is the 22nd September and I feel like a different man to he one I have had to live with the last 3 months and I feel without the surgery I'd still be so so down and this site has really opened my eyes up as it must be a second chance if all goes well. If my physio is a success I am going to do pilates and I think will try and walk as much as I can as I have always enjoyed a food walk and feel with combining both it will give me a good platform to start to build my core up. I had also lost 1.5 stones in weight since may28th so am technically now normal bodyweight so if this continues I am a changed man forever. If anyone has any questions or comments suggestions I will happily take on board or reply but what I must do now is walk before I run as I have approx 5 weeks before I see them again and really in that time I will have my life back on track.*
Thanks to everyone on this site for their help and support in what has been the worst summer in my life
Ps stress anxiety and fear are your enemy and women trouble can Hurt like mad I have found so don't let ya mind win make sure you do and after every bad day a new tommorow is only hours away * * **
