hi,came across this forum today, thought i would share my experiance.in december my back just suddenly went the pain was terrible but with the pain i had a aching in my foot,so i went to see my gp who said to take pain killers, which i did,but they didnt help, anyway on 2 jan 08 i couldnt take the pain any longer so i went to a&e who told me it could be a disc problem and told me to rest and go back to see my gp.04 jan 08 the pain was so bad i had to go back to a&e,where they gave me an painkillers and told me to try accupuncture and was sent back home.3 weeks later i was in bed as i couldnt move for the pain,i suddenly lost control of my bladder, and couldnt stand at all.i had to phone the amulance who had to take me to a different hospital, when i arrived they examined me and the doc told me somethin wasnt right.3 hour later after morphine they tried to give me an MRI,but i couldnt lie on my back because of the pain, even after diazapam and morphine i was in agony.anyway they transferred me to another hospital, which took them 4 hours of diazapam and morphine to finally get me to lie for 2 mins on my back in the MRI,as soon as they saw the MRI scan they could see my L5 S1 disc had completly broken off and was up my back and was on my spinal cord.apparently the surgeon told me he had been doing his job 45 years and he never saw one as bad as mine.i was told if i didnt have surgery straight away i would be paralised waist down in less than 24 hours.i was rushed to theatre where they removed my disc and shaved my vertabrea.today i am left with numbness in my left foot and thigh and bottom and have a very weak bladder now,i still have pain everyday (not as bad as i did) but the doc said the op was not a cure only to stop further deteration as the disc had rubbed away at my nerves and they cant repair nerve damage.im 38 and every day is a struggle,i used to be so lively doing things everyday to now being like this.i cant walk far,i cant bend, stay indoors all the time, and have pain 24-7.
