ZANESVILLE – When Jessica Hennessey fell and injured her back, she thought her 11 years as a hairdresser were over. But with a lot of hard work and an indomitable spirit, she was able open her own salon, La Bella Vita, at 973 McIntire Ave.
Hennessey, a self-proclaimed "spa lover," designed La Bella Vita with all of her favorite spa experiences in mind, offering an aromatherapy oxygen bar, blow dry service, milk baths and aesthetician services.
"I just put everything that I would want in here," she said. "We want people to have a full experience."
In addition to the luxury services delivered in the pale-pink interior of the modern-chic studio, the salon's focus on originality extends to its products.
La Bella Vita sells and uses a variety of products exclusive to the salon in Zanesville and even in Ohio, including Jane Iredale makeup and Eminence Organic Skin Care products. The Cashmere and Twig organic line of scrubs and milk baths also is exclusive to the salon, made by a longtime friend and colleague of Hennessey, Jackie Matheney.
"Since I was a little girl, I've had a love of nature and find its beauty and benefits magical," she said. "I wanted to reap what nature had to offer but never found products that were truly organic. I figure, if I wouldn't eat them, why would I put them on my skin?"

Quality products, experienced staff and plush furnishing have paid off, Hennessey said.
"It's been busier than we even expected," she said.
The salon also hosts Little Bella birthday parties for children in addition to Girls' Night Out and bachelorette events, during which the staff provides a variety of spa services for every individual.
Being able to make success out of an injury from which Hennessey thought she might never recover echoes the salon's tagline, "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, she became a butterfly."
"It's everything I love," Hennessey said. "When I thought I wouldn't get to do this anymore, I felt like somebody took it away from me."
