Landing DJ Gigs?

So some friends and I are heading to Thailand (and Malaysis) during Peak Season... It's going to be my first time! Pretty stoked. So, as the thread says, how hard is it for DJ's to find somewhere to spin for a night or two... Doesn't have to be at a big club, just somewhere were there may be a setup and the owners allow guests to have a spot... Something my friend and I want to do really bad! haha. I play house music btw (Deep, soulful, commercial, ahh you name it!), but can play a little top 40 as well. If anyone has any info I'd greatly appreciate it. BTW feel free to pm me for mixes!

If you hit the search engine and look at any one of the 10 or so threads where other people post on here about DJ'ing locally.. You might get the answers you seek.

Will save you the search ,you just cant do it even if you dont get paid for it unfortunatly . You could end up being arrested and fined possibly deported not worth it ....

I wonder how many of the DJ's for this RoyFestin Karon have work permits? I'd dare say none, but all is taken care of by the local Karon gov't which dropped 22 million baht (according to the gazette news story).
From what I have seen at the site, and calculated on marketing and paying DJ's, someone is making a hell of a lot of "commission". Expenses can't be more than 200K USD, yet the tab is about 700K USD.

Its managed by the TAT.. So 1) that explains the waste and 2) they could fast track visa's if they wanted to.

Yes, but did they fast track those visas for a 2 day performance? I was at Karon today and yesterday and their set up certainly does not warrant the price eforum.xxx.

I thought there was a performance visa you could get when you arrive.

Not sure, anyway I know quite a few DJ's who play without work permits. I don't think you can even get a work permit to cover DJing, probably be music consultant or similar.

It's possible but hard to find gigs if your only going to be there for a short period of time. Hit up the people at ::RST:ro DJ Equipment, PA Sound & Light, Wireless Hi End Audio & Artist booking, Phuket or at Sights & Sounds of Paradise

I wouldn't expect to get paid. Bangkok is much easier. You can roll in a club and show em some cds and prolly get on for the night. Bkk is where its at for dj work

Thanks. I'll be in Bangkok as well for a little bit. But reading from the other threads, it might not be worth it if I need a Work Permit... Honestly, that is retarded IMO. I mean, it could benefit clubs if once or twice a week they could have "open decks" where tourists play what they love and see if the crowd digs it or not... Meh o well.
