LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Saturday issued a new executive order that continues social-distancing practices at the workplace to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). She ordered the shutdown (effective Sunday morning), until further notice, of all facilities that provide non-essential personal care services — including hair, nail, tanning, massage, spa, tattoo, body art and piercing services, and similar services that require individuals to be within six feet of each other.
Whitmer cautions the public and business community that additional restrictions may be issued in the hours and days to follow during the rapidly worsening coronavirus pandemic in Michigan where 1,035 people have tested positive to the coronavirus as of today.
Michigan hospitals and health departments this weekend have reported four additional deaths linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the state’s number of virus-related deaths to eight in a four-day span.
The majority of confirmed cases of people infected by COVID-19 are in metro Detroit. The city of Detroit has 325 cases, while Oakland County has 277, Macomb has 140 and the rest of Wayne County has 152. The state counts Detroit and Wayne County separately.
