A couple is suing a massage business in Cedar Park, saying it failed to do a background check on a massage therapist who exposed himself during a massage.
The therapist, Adrian Johnson, placed his penis in a woman’s hand while she was getting a massage with her husband at La Vida Massage on March 15, 2014, according to the lawsuit.
The incident happened when the couple were both lying facedown on their massage tables, according to the suit, which was filed Monday. The front desk manager at the business at 2800 E. Whitestone Blvd. told the couple later that day that the business had failed to check Johnson’s professional references and had only checked his personal references, the document said.

One of the owners of La Vida Massage in Round Rock, Abhay Salunke, declined to comment about the suit. His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
Johnson, a 27-year-old Austin resident at the time, was on probation for obstructing a highway passage in 2011 in Austin, according to Travis County court records. Details about the charge were not available Thursday. He had also been arrested twice for public intoxication in 2005 and 2006 in Round Rock, according to court records.
Cedar Park police charged Johnson with indecent exposure and evading arrest on March 15, 2014,after the wife reported what happened, according to an arrest affidavit. Police could not find him at the massage business, it said. A witness said Johnson had called him saying he had run away because he was on probation and needed a ride, the document said.
The affidavit said Johnson was booked into the Williamson County jail on March 16, 2014, but that he disappeared after he was released on bail. After he didn’t appear in April 2014 for a court hearing, he was charged with bond forfeiture.
After Johnson placed his penis in the woman’s hand, he removed it and finished the massage before running out the door, said the couple’s lawyer, Todd Kelly.
The woman was too scared to say anything during the massage, Kelly said this week, because of what her husband might do to the man.
She told her husband what happened as they were leaving the business, Kelly said.
The couple is seeking $1 million in damages for physical and emotional distress, the lawsuit said. “This is a very personal lawsuit,” said Kelly. He said the couple was getting a massage together to work through issues they already had and “this was a huge setback.”
