Well Rusty..........as a long time, suffering, yet still hardcore Leaf fan I can tell you that eternal optimism is a way of life for I and countless others. And we wouldn't have it any other way. I disagree with your statement that Maltby, McCarthy,and Draper are a better version of Tucker, Corson and Green. I do agree that they are a healthier version though. I love Stevie Y as much as the next guy but let's face it...........the guy is clearly hurting and the next big-time hit he receives (see Gary Roberts) could finish him for the year. I'm with you on Shanahan and Datsyuk..........but Fedorov remains an enigma...........Hull is a shadow of his former self..............and Lucky Luc has been MIA since the playoffs began. Once you get by Nik Lidstrom on the blueline you are left with aging vets and journeyman. Watch Freddie O and company run for cover when Hurricane Gary comes a callin'. As for goaltending...........the way Curt is playing it's a wash at best.
The Avs on the other hand scare the life out of me. Three prime time defencemen.............and the best 1st and 2nd lines in the league...........not to mention Patrick back there. Nuff said. But this is a game. It's not math. Nothing is resolute. When emotions and character...............unjust penalty calls...........key injuries.................otherworldly performances...........and other assorted variables come into play, then a team of destiny can better a team with larger amounts of skill and/or talent. I won't bore you with mention of legendary upsets in sports throughout history.
It has happened before.................and it may again!
BTW...........if I were Pat Quinn, in game 6...................I would sit Valk and Domi.................bring up Brad Boyes for some spark.............and put Ponikarovski back in the line up that he should never have been taken out of in the first place. And obviously the same goes for Dempsey.

You make good points Craven but you're forgetting the Leafs will be facing a whole different class of opponent if they make it by the Canes.I believe you're underestimating the Wings D as well as the line of Draper,Maltby and Mccarthy.Wings over the Leafs with ease.Colorado vs the Leafs would be an even bigger mismatch which you illustrated with your previous points about the Avs.

I think Toronto could win a series against Detroit, their a talented team, but they are older and a little vulnerable. Colorado would be tough for sure, thats a lot of high quality players right around their prime, but the Stanley cup would bring out the best in the leafs so they'd make a series out of it at least and certainly could win, all you need to do is get a few guys on a run and you could pull anything out.

Kaberle and Mogilny are not going to be sleeping well tonight. Two terrible giveaways and that's the game................too bad they didn't win........it would of made for a great comeback story. Rather than point fingers at Kaberle and Mogilny (2 key guys for our team that have made huge contributions since their arrival) lets just accept the fact that the other team played better than we did in this series. Curtis was amazing and if they don't sign this guy it will go down in history as one of the worst PR moves of all time. He can name his price and sign in Philly........New York.......St. Louis........wherever. And don't forget............if he does that, we get dick for him. We could of lost 5-0 last night and that's being generous. If you want to point fingers.........point one at that stiff Reichel. Talk about not getting your money's worth. How about Cory "the pylon" Cross. Eriksson? Lumme? Hoglund? Let's face it we still got some work to do. Let's just hope Stavro spends some of the mega-dough he got from all these home dates in the playoffs and goes after Bill Guerin and friends.
Yes......it is indeed a sad day in Leafland................but all true Leaf fans know the boys did us proud.
