left psoas/ilium and emotions
jason!
i'm sorry, I didn't see that you had replied to this. looking more closely at the three clients I'm thinking of with this, i'm dropping the emotional theory as a unifying theme
. I'm wondering about your question about whether what i'm really seeing is a right anteriorly rotated ilium. i may be really missing something here. In two clients, I see no anterior tilt on the right (alignment from shoulder to femur to ankle is excellent), only posterior on the left. In another, there is a slight anterior rotation on the right, including the short QL and bound up sacral ligaments, but on her I imagined this as a reaction to the extreme posterior tilt on the left. Does that make sense? Can you tell me more about the correlations you see, or direct me to your favorite resources about what usually comes first and how the two sides interact?
In a recent case a client came--she had had a car accident 3 years ago in which she fell on her right side. Her only lingering pain is that sometimes right sacral ligaments, piriformis, QL, and hamstrings get tight and painful. She thinks of this as being because of an anterior tilt on the right, caused by the accident. But when she came to me a couple of months ago (2 sessions ago) I saw no anterior tilt, while the left ilium was at first pitched so far posterior that I imagine it gripped to protect itself from the hit. (Does THAT make sense?) There was an aggravated QL and sacral ligaments and strained piriformis on the right, but I imagined that that was because they were overworked as a reaction to the long, unavailable QL on the other side. Does THAT make sense? I thought the glutes on the side with the posterior tilt should be weaker (she's an athlete), but in fact they look/feel more built up.
Thankfully her pain is mostly gone (hamstrings, glutes, sacral ligaments much softer but QL and erector attachments at sacrum/iliac crest still feels aggravated), and the extreme posterior tilt (source seems to be iliacus and quads) has reduced at least 50%. We're both pleased but I would love to know if I'm understanding the relationship between the two sides correctly.
No-holds-barred advice and resources welcome!
Thank you!
