Leg cramp

Hi - I have been giving reflexology treatments to this person for the last year and the last 5-6 treatments she has got cramp in her leg. Always the same leg and usually at the end of the treatment.At first I thought it could be a particular reflex point causing the 'problem' butthis does not seem to be the case. However, part way through the last couple of treatments rather than at theend of a session she got cramp. We have tried changing the support of pillow, position of foot and also stopping! But, as soon as I touch her foot again she gets cramp- has anyone else come across this - I appreciate your advise Thank You !!

I've never experienced this and it's impossible to guess what's happening without knowing your client's full history. How old is she?

Which reflex points trigger off the cramps? Do her feet feel cold? Does she find the treatments uncomfortable? Could be she's tensing up against the pressure applied. You could try mixing in more relaxation or massage techniques during the treatments to help her circulation and relax her feet.

Just out of interest, what's her Parathyroid reflex like, is there any imbalance there? Does she get plenty of calcium in her diet?

Hi thanks! This lady is early 50's fit and healthy ex pe instructor. Op on knee a couple of years ago(leg that cramps). Nothing consistent regarding any particular relex area as a trigger Has mainly happened with massage strokes at end of treatment. I do light touch - so not tensing up regarding pressure! Only 'tender' areas on feet are around sinuses which always unblock mid treatment. Been coming to see me for a year for relaxation and help with sinuses. Feet nice and warm. Can only think it's possibly something to do with knee op - but only happened recently and has been treated in same position on courch for months prior to that without any probs. No imbalance in parathyroid. Follows healthy diet. Appreciate any help to solve this little mystery!!!

Well feeties, you and Susan have covered all the things I would have thought of straight away. Can I suggest though that she eats a banana before coming for treatments, as that is supposed to help ward off cramps. Also, I wonder if your lady is menopausal. I have read that in ladies going through the change and getting leg cramps a Vit E supplement is supposed to be helpful. And finally, is there an emotional issue your lady is dealing with at the moment. Let us know if you get to the bottom of this one, really interesting.

I'll certainly suggest the banana idea to her. Certainly not aware of emotional issues. Menopausal - yes and has been taking HRT for a while now. Anyway thanks everyone when I see her next I'll suggest the banana and I'll keep you posted if it works!!!
