Lower Back Pain & Leg Pain/Weakness

Hi I am new to the forum.
I hope I can get some help advice from it.
I am 34 and have suffered with neck & back pain for a number of years.
But just recently I have had lower back pain and weak/aching legs.
My doctor/osteopath reckon it is Sciatica, but I am really worried as my sister suffered from a prolapsed disc some years ago and had to have a disc taken out but was left with cauda equina syndrome, so I am obviously worried in case I will suffer with the same sort of thing. I have had the terrible pain in my lower back for over two weeks, it is worse when I'm sitting, at the moment I work in an office! But in two weeks time I start a new job in the police so will be walking constantly (I hope this will ease the pain) but I am worried that my legs won't carry me as they are so weak. I had an xray on Friday and will get the results in a couple of weeks. But I am really worried - is it back related or is it something else? Any advice? Please help as I am REALLY worried.

Hi Nicki,
It sounds as though you have been to Dr and Osteopath and feel no better, have you considered a massage, either by a remedial or sports massage therapist who will have a wider range of knowledge than a holistic therapist ( no offence to holistic therapsits intended). they will be trained in a number of different techniques as well as assessment techniques.
You could always try to keep a diary of things that are either "aggravating or easing factors" as this will help the therapist when carrying out assessment.

have suffered with this myself for many years ,and like you tried to carry on as normally as possible pester for results as quick as poss,if it is disc trouble you could be doing more damage than you realise,weak leggs does sound like a disc problem, good luck and be careful

i too have suffered with this problem for years yesterday having to go back to the doctors again every couple of weeks now because by back is going off whenever i do anything that i would not do day to day the other day it was cutting a bit of hair of my dog a few weeks ago it was sweeping the garden path any way he said i now have chronic back problem and to take painkillers i have tried in the past many different types of treatment but it seems like nothing will give me relief when it goes so i can relate to what you are saying but there must be something apart from painkillers
