lumbar probs ~ where to go now????

Hi guys,

I really dont know what to do anymore. After numerous hospital visits, MRI etc i was found to have a number of probs with my back (i posted on here a few month ago with the actual problems).

After having intense physio since May, hydrotheraphy for 12 weeks and now in spinal rehab for 6 weeks, even though my core muscles feel stronger, i dont feel any different!! I have a review with the physio next week but dont hold much hope. This has been going on for over 18 months now since the quick birth of my daughter and is getting harder each day.

In between all this i have also been dismissed from work due to ill health capeability (although this is going through tribunal now).

what can i do from here??? all i want to do is feel better but feel that no one is doing anything!

also i have 3 lumps down my spine (you cant feel them) but i can when i am sat, say on the sofa or in the car. Thy feel like golf balls under my jumper!!!

Hi Max

Its good that you are feeling stronger. Good functional fitness of your core muscles are very important for protecting your spine during your daily activities. Poor functional fitness of these muscles, is often the cause of back problems.

I just found your original post, you list a lot of problems including the fracture of the vertebrae. My guess is that it will take a long time for all of those problems to heal and for you to be totally pain free. The difficulty with back problems is that most of us abuse them daily, by sitting badly or for too long, standing with poor posture, lifting badly etc

I would encourage you to continue strengthening your core muscles, and wherever possible ensure that you have excellent posture. I would have thought seeing someone for Alexander Technique or maybe Bowen Technique as recommended on your original thread might be worth trying.

MAX, I am sorry that you are getting the 'conservative treatment run around' so favoured by Orthopeads & Neuros. You sound frustrated, fed up and let down. I've been there and done that!

Do what I did and read (in detail) the following web sites:

Many thanks Guys ~ Its nice to know I am not alone and feel better just getting feelings off my chest! Just had update from Senior Physio and they and sending me for more!!! I cant bloody win!! I am being referred back again to the Urology for the Bladder ~ I seem to keep reading that bladder/bowell problems relating to the back is quite serious yet my hospital dont seem to think so ~ please can someone explain if it is or not??

Bowel/Bladder problems are well documented as being a serious side effects of spinal imbalance or damage, as are liver/kidney problems.
There are many varying views as to why, but it is accepted there are links.

These are serious side effects and I hope you fully concentrate your mind on finding an effective and minimully invasive procedure to eleveate the root cause of your problems before the doctors prescribe you serious drugs for the management of your condition.
