Lumpy tissue

Hi allJust had this client who is overweight & has very lumpy & congested muscle tissue (mostly in legs & arms) with very little muscle tone. She is quite tender & sensitive even with moderate pressure.  Does anyone think people like this have more pain or are more sensitive than people with healthy tissue?  Any theories on lumpy tissue & pain??ThanksLindy

When you say lumpy do you mean fluidy or boggy-like?  Does it feel watery in some places?  If this is the case your client could probably do very well with a few sessions of lymph drain.  I had a period of time where I had a build-up of fluid in my upper legs, especially in the hamstring group.  I could only take light to medium pressure, and my therapist did some lymph drain on me, and almost instantly I could take a lot more preessure.  If there is a build up of fluid in a limb or anywhere in the body, it starts to push on tender points, or trigger points, and the pain is amplified when you add pressure.  If one gets that fluid out of there there are less things that are compressing down on tender myofacial tissue, thus the client will be in less pain upon an increase in pressure...
