Lymphedema and Breat Cancer

I have a client interested in making a few sessions.  She has had breat cancer and one of her breasts have been removed.  I know a little about lymphedema...and what i've learned from the "Real Bodywork Lymphatic Drainage" instructional tape.  But they did not demonstate the lymphatic drainage in the chest...only touched upon the subject.  Any advise anyone has had on this topic...please share your experiences.

Hi vchild,I've taken some onocology massage protocol training, and from what I recall, you should not do any massage in the quadrant where the lymph nodes were removed. Most oncology patients have had at least one removed for biopsy. There are also some websites that discuss the protocol--you might want to see what you can find on google. Please keep in mind that massage done improperly on a person who has had lymph nodes removed can actually _cause_ lymphedema, so unless you feel comfortable that you really know what you're doing, please refer her to someone who does. If you are in California, many of the hospitals in the Bay Area--Berekeley, UCDavis & Sierra Memorial have oncology massage programs for their patients.
