A Hemingford native who went on to become a licensed massage therapist is using her skills to not only ease muscle pain and tension, but to help people maintain their well-being.
Brooke Foster, a 2011 Hemingford High School graduate, decided to try massage therapy school from the suggestion of her grandfather, Jim Bruns. It didn’t take long at all for Foster to realize she made the right decision.
“A short time in to school I discovered I was right where I needed to be as I excelled in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology and the small class and “family” like environment gave me the tools I needed to succeed in my future career,” Foster said. “Shortly into clinicals I learned that I really found my niche while working on people that needed healing and relief. I was putting my compassionate personality to work and I knew I was right where I needed to be.”
After completing the Midwest School of Massage Therapy program, Foster passed the state board exam to become a licensed massage therapist. She also traveled to Palo Alto, Calif., in the spring of 2014 for an advanced sports massage class to learn under Gisele Griffin, a seasoned professional sports therapist.
After massage school, Foster became a massage therapist for Monument Physical Therapy. After gaining experience and growing a clientele base, she decided it was time to test the waters as an entrepreneur. She opened Foster Massage and Wellness in the spring of 2015.
Foster offers prenatal massage, sports/injury massage, swedish massage, deep tissue massage and fascial stretching. She also occasionally uses Rock Tape, a kinesiology tape. She also hopes to offer cupping therapy and hot stone massage soon.
Foster makes sure to taper each session to the individual's needs, wants and goals.
There are several benefits of massage therapy, which is a manipulation of the body’s soft tissues. A few include that it eases muscle pain and tension, improves circulation, relieves stress, speeds recovery and healing of injured soft tissue injuries, improves mobility, boots immune function and sleep quality.
Foster said massage therapy is important to maintain optimal performance of your body.
“I think it’s essential to promote a sense of well-being with minimal pain so you can complete everyday activities at your best,” she said.
Foster’s clientele is very diverse. She treats people from all walks of life with a wide range of ailments. Some of her clients do not suffer from any condition or pain but just need some time to relax and unwind – and a massage is an ideal solution for that as well.
Foster typically travels to Gering a few days a week and schedules appointments in Hemingford on the remaining days. Her days are not set in stone since she has found that by not having a set schedule, she can work with people’s schedules easier.
At this time, Foster leases a space from Tina Frahm’s salon, New Image, in Hemingford and Monument Physical Therapy in Gering.
Foster is very flexible with people’s schedules.
“I understand that life gets crazy and busy for people so convenience is key,” she said.
