Maple story help im newbie?

Hi I am new to MapleStory what is the best thing i can start on like being a thief, magician, warriot, pirate or bowman?

I don't get it why do people have to be in groups
and how come theres a place when your gonna make a account i chose the third one and its snow?

Pirate would be my answer he has a gun and he takes far to get to so more exp plus he gets most missions also the united form get pirate then get thief thief can teleport go invisible etc... but pirate first cause 2nd job is a killer with him
