Massag and RollerDerby??

Heres one from left field - anybody work with a rollerderby team? I just found out the city I am moving to has a new team. I have no ambition to join...having no health insurance and a fear of pain - well it just doesn't seem like something I would like to do on a Tuesday night. BUT I think it would be super fun to be a part of the scene, like, support staff or something.

I am kind of thinking they would be more battered and bruised then anything, so maybe massage wouldn't be their first choice - but maybe a few days later is when they would need it. I wont have a business in the city, no nothing to promote but it still would be fun. ANyone see potential with this? They do have a chiro at their events I guess.

I googled first and didn't see anything, just came up with MTs as sponsors or whatnot. So I thought I would throw it out there into massageland and see what you guys had to say or if any of you have done this!

I have worked on one roller derby "chick" before. Unfortunately it has been enough years that the file has been purged. I will say, every time I saw her she was pretty banged up.

They didn't pay the girls much, but they seemed to have a great time with it. So, sure, why not see if you can be the team MT? Maybe you'll like it too and get involved in all the fanfare. They may even mention you on their website and give you a "call name" like "Body Sqoosher" *hehe*! Ya never know.

Beside the trauma to the body, I would look at which direction they are going around the rink (track? lanes?) during practice & derbies... So if they aren't balancing out the muscles on the other side of the body, there may be some issues to look for. Same as someone who always runs the same route on the slanted neighorbood street, probably more pronounced.

Our town has a roller derby too. I've never thought about approaching any of them about massage, but it is a good idea... Why not?

I've often thought roller derby sounds like a cool thing to do, if my bodily safety wasn't so important.

Sounds like a great opportunity to give back to the community, network, and possible PR - that would be interesting material for a magazine or newspaper story ... Sounds like a lot of fun to me! (minus the body bashing, of course)
