Massage and acryllics???

i was just watching some rubbish TV as i ate lunch. some woman was demonstrating Indian Head Massage to 2 novices. she had pretty long acryllic nails. oh she tehn went onto demo a manicure.

now, i would have thought that any kind of hands on treatment, be it beauty or holistic, would be very difficult with long nails, natural or not.

what do you think?

That programme would send out the wrong message - apart from the fact that long nails would hurt, IHM is still a massage and we were always taught to have short nails with no enamel etc in case of any cross infection. Also, it doesn't look professional. I'm amazed that she was allowed to do it.

My hands were once used for an advert in a mag doing a facial and although I had no rings or varnish on, although my nails were short, one nail was a slightly longer than the others and I was made to cut it back before the photos were taken!

mine are well manicured but stop just above the rise of the finger bed so you can just see the tips if you look at your hand palm facing towards you...any longer than that causes problems, with IHM I tend to use flats of finger pads more than finger tips though as its a bigger surface and feels better (in my opinion and that of my clients) than the tips...so from that point of view it wouldnt have been a problem.....

I couldnt massage effectively if they were any longer and a lot of the time I use knuckles, fists etc but then they just dig back into your palm!!!

the head masage i do also incorporates the face... i'd be scared stiff of gouging an eye or scratching. i agree sue, it sends out an odd message.

so does mine but i still mainly use finger pads as it feels better somehow...mind you my nails are not that long so i could use finger tips, i just find finger tips are a bit pointy...

I'm the same, Tigs.

We were taught at college that if you can see your nails over your fingers when your hands a turned towards you then they are too long and l have kept to that ever since.

When l first started my college, a young lady was asked to cut her nails in the first week, the tutor explained the reasons. she refused and left the course......... l was so shocked that they meant so much to her or the course meant so little.... which was a shame.
