Massage and acupuncture in same week

Because I have a history of lightheaded, headache, fatigue, and digestive problems, someone referred me to a skilled accpuncturist. I have to have 10 or 11 appointments, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Anything that will help my symptoms.

Someone who knows the accupuncturist just said the other day that I might NOT be able to get massage or chiropractic during those treatments. That's a long time, 4 months almost! I mean, I understand not doing them on the same day as some feel it is overstimulation of the body, but I don't understand why the accpuncturist thinks I can't do them on the same week. I called him on the phone and he kind of indicated that everyone is different and it depends what my treatments are for, but that I should probably cancel some of my upcoming chiropractic appointments. (one every two weeks) The chiropratic basically thinks this is garbage and said that they have an accupuncturist in their office who has seen patients at the same time as massage. He doesn't understand why they couldn't be done in the same week, just not on the same day.

What do you think? Is there a contradiction between chiro/massage and accpuncture?

I had a client who recieved massage and acupuncture in the same week... and within 2 weeks had made amazing progress. (He'd been off work for over a month... having taken a fall while painting. He was self-employed so this was quite a hit to the pocketbook.) Within a couple weeks of receiving both massage and acupuncture he was able to return (limited) to work at last!

not to my knowledge. one of my regular clients is getting all three every week.

I've had clients get acu/mass/chiro at close (weekly) intervals without problems, even acu/massage on the same day and acu/chiro on the same day.

However, if the acupuncturist is working with very specific meridians in the TCM treatment, this could be a reason for the acupuncturist suggestion of only acupuncture and no other modalities. He/she may need to monitor the protocol very strictly for your specific issues.

I'd consider asking the acupuncturist exactly why they are suggesting only acupuncture at this time. And, I'd listen to the acupuncturists request, as it may make a difference in your specific healing pattern.

I frequently receive acupunture, chiropractic care and massage all in the same day. Often, doing all three in one day is the only thing that works for me because I don't like to work after getting treatments and I can't often take three days off!

If you are getting massage, chiropractic, and accupuncture all within the same time period, who is to say which one helped you more? Maybe one modality didnt help you at all, but how would you know which one? If you do one at a time, you will know which one helped you.

That may very well be the motive behind the acupuncturist forbiding other treatments. Ace, why not ask directly for more specifics regarding what the contraindications are?

As for me, I know that all three have helped me in different ways all throughout my life (as well as working synergistically) and that's why I continue treatment, with my MD, LaC and DC's blessing

I've received acu and massage in the same week a few times. I didn't have anything bad happen to me.

Some of my clients get chiro and massage in the same day.
