Finally, we have some decisive action relating to the CNHC massage register!
All courses in massage will have to cover a minimum of 80 hours in-class to be recognised by the CNHC.
In my opinion there has been a lot of 'dragging of heels' over this matter and the policy has come under a lot of pressure, but the decision has finally been made to introduce the minimum standard of the National Occupational Standards, plus the massage core curriculum which has been published for many years.
Whilst it wont do away with the 2 day weekend warriors, offering 'accredited' courses, such as the one ive just looked at, sports massage in 2 days, covering pretty much every soft tissue technique you can think of, plus RICE, thermotherapy and cryotherapy (gosh, these must be looooooooooong days!!!), it will mean that there will be a clear distinction between what is recognised, and what is not.
Its only taken 2+ years, but we got there in the end!
