RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that senior Carlo Izurieta, of the men's tennis team, is the Massage Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.

Izurieta went 2-1 in singles last week as he played all his matches in the No. 2 spot for the Vaqueros.

After dropping his first match of the weekend, Izurieta bounced back with a straight set 6-4, 6-3 victory over Grand Canyon's Freddie Grant.

Izurieta then closed out the weekend with a three-set victory over No. 24 Texas A&M's Mathis Bondaz. After dropping the first set 4-6, Izurieta answered back with a 7-5 win in the second before taking the tiebreaker 10-6 to clinch his ninth singles win of the season.

Izurieta's singles win at Texas A&M is the first singles victory over a Power Five opponent since 2017.

The Vaqueros will be back in action Saturday at 10 a.m. when they close out the regular season at Prairie View A&M.
