RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that freshman Marjorie Souza, of the women's tennis team, is the Message Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.

Souza, from Serra Negra, Brazil, moved into the No. 2 singles spot this week and did not disappoint.

With the Vaqueros leading 3-2, Souza picked up her second win of the season by defeating Prairie View A&M's Victoria Fuenmmayor Castillo in three sets to give UTRGV its third win in a row.

Souza opened with a 6-3 victory in the first before falling 3-6 in the second. Souza then dominated the final set with a 6-1 victory.

On the season, Souza is 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles as she also moved into the top doubles spot this week with partner Lea Karren.

The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Corpus Christi to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at 3 p.m.
