RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore Stefanie Wilske of the women's tennis team is the Massage Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.
Wilske won three consecutive singles matches playing in the No. 5 flight this past week, including two Western Athletic Conference (WAC) victories. Her success helped the Vaqueros earn team wins in all three matches they played this past week and start 2-0 in WAC play.
Wilske opened the week with a 6-1, 7-5 win over NJIT's Advaita Saravanan at the Brownsville Tennis Center. UTRGV traveled to Huntsville for the first WAC cluster of the season, and Wilske tabbed a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Sam Houston's Isidora Zivkovic on Saturday, then defeated Abilene Christian's Ileana Mocciola 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday.
Wilske has won all five of the singles matches she's competed in this season, all at the No. 5 spot. She has a 2-1 record in doubles, partnering each time with junior Valeria Montero.
UTRGV will be back in action Friday-Sunday with matches against New Mexico State and UTEP in Stephenville, and a match at Texas Tech.
