ATTICA — The newest place to get your nails and hair done, or get a massage, is The eXchange in Attica.
The eXchange opened Feb. 8 on, fittingly, Exchange Street and is offering multiple services.
“There’s a place for massage in Attica and place to get your hair done in Attica, there’s no place for nails, but there isn’t one place where you can do all of it under one roof,” said Renee Ackert, the brains behind the operation.
Ackert has teamed up with Meghan Covert, the nail technician of the place, and Karen Bialy, a stylist/cosmetologist with 20 years of experience in the industry, to bring these services to Attica.
Ackert says she had been looking to open a business in Attica after moving there from Warsaw three years ago.
“I have young kids and they started going to school here, so I knew I wanted to plant roots,” she said.
Ackert began looking for a place around six months ago and signed the lease for the location on the first of the year. Just weeks later, she’s opened the doors.
“It’s been a hectic five weeks,” she said.
Ackert got in touch with Bialy and Covert through mutual friends — they didn’t know each other much before opening this business together — and made things happen to open the doors.
None of the three women had been an entrepreneur before, but they’re looking forward to the experience.
“It’s definitely a scary adventure for all of us,” Bialy said. “But I don’t think it took us very long to make the decision that this is a good journey to take.”
So they’ve opened the shop and things have been going well thus far. The three agree that the response has been good, but they’re doing everything they can to get the word out there.
“I knew people who worked in salons and spas that didn’t make a lot of money, and I knew there was a way you could make a collection of people where everybody has their own business inside four walls and everybody working toward a bigger goal,” Ackert said. “So far it’s working.”
“It’s been pretty smooth, I think,” Bialy added. “It’s all kind of flowed. We haven’t found anything difficult yet.”
The shop offers hair cuts and styles for men and women; different massage styles to hone in on your specific stress; and nail services to top it all off.
“It’s unique. You can’t walk into any other place and get service in multiple areas,” Ackert said.
“It’s perfect.”
