Could anyone please recommend somewhere I can get good quality mineral oil, pre-mixed aromatherapy oils and massage creams please?

Hi Lisa,

Have you ever tried Tui waxes? They're made from organic beeswax and have essential oils mixed into them (although you can buy an unscented one too.) I have found these to be excellent...better than oil actually because they're easier to apply (no oil bottle) and they won't stain a client's clothes. When you first buy a pot, you do sometimeshave to mix it up a little bit because the wax is a little hard, but it soon softens up and it applies just as normal oils.

I agree with Azalia, never use anything else now!! My current fave is the Herbal Lift blend, follwed by Lavendar then Wild Rose. The only one I am not too keen on is the Mountain Forest - too pine scented for me!

The reflexology wax is also fab - I borrow it to massage the feet during a FBM!!

I agree, the Tui waxes are fab. I would dearly love to useTui as everyone who has experienced it absolutely loves the smell, it is so easy to use and gives just enough glide without pulling the skin or allowing you to slip around and leaves the skin beautifully smooth.

But I have come up against a problem...I am trained in Holistic Massage and insured with EMBODY. Unfortunately they won't insure me to use essential oils, even in pre-mixed blends of 1-2% strength, including Tui waxes.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will insure non-aromatherapists to use pre-blended oils and waxes?

I rank SMG as promised and as you suspected I wasn't covered as I am not an aromatherapist ..but they have now added an extra clause to my policy that says I am covered to provide massage using bought premixed waxws/oils/creams ussing essential oils.

So it might be worth checking out with your oen policies to ensure you're covered

I will have another chat to EMBODY and if they can't accomodate then will switch to SMG when premium needs updating later on this year.

This is an interesting thread because I was under the impression you can't get insurance to use anything containing any essential oils unless you are qualified in Aromatherapy?
I have just finished my A&P and Massage and am thinking about starting to offer a mobile service or use a room in my house, but was hesitant because I so hate using the horrible cooking oil! I use the lovely Neals Yard pre-blends on my friends at the moment but was told by my tutor that it was definitely not possible to use as a professional. I used the Tui unscented wax in my ITEC massage exam and even with that the examiner really grilled me about it asking what was in it and I got the impression she didn't approve.
Does anyone know if the costs are particularly different with different insurance companies - ie. would the one mentioned in the post above that lets you use pre-blends be more expensive?? - Lisa could I ask how much you are paying for insurance???

Just thought I would point out, any vegan clients you have may will probably not want to be massaged using beeswax. Otherwise, they sound great.

I always make sure I ask my clients if they are ok with my using it as it uses Beeswax. I know some Vegans are happy with it. It is a very good point to be made, and one that is often overlooked - same with Hopi Ear Candles.

Reading through this thread again, I thought I had better check with my insurers re the use of Tui waxes.

I am also with Embody, so gave them a call, explained that the waxes were great, available to buy by the general public etc etc nothing untoward in them, and that they were great to use.

I explained that I never blend my own oils, noe have any desire to etc etc.

After checking with the insurance broker, they rang bakc and advised me that they would not cover me for the use of these waxes. Not even if I got the cleint to sign a disclaimer.

I LOVE these waxes, and really cannot see what harm they could do to anybody with such low amounts of essentials oils in them. I did tell them that someone had managed to get a rider added to their policy, but they were not willing to do this.

I too will be switching Insurance companies! I do not want to do an Aromatherapy course. I am not using the waxes for Aromatherapy purposes, just to offer the client a nice massage, I make no claims on the benefits of the aroma, nor do I use any wax in particular. I usually offer the fragrances for the client to choose one that they like the smell of.

I guess I will have to go back to Almond Oil for now - until I can get some unfragranced wax ordered.

Fozzyo, Azalia, have you encountered this problem?

EDIT: I have just rang SMG to get a quote through them. They were quite happy to cover me on the above basis, but their quote for my therapies (massage, hot stones and reiki) was £155 [] more than 3 times what I pay now for Insurance!! GULP! They admitted that the Hot stones is considered more of a risk than normal massage, but wow. I am going to have to have a good think.[sm=sad2.gif]

Hi all,

I just had to renew my insurance, so checked with them if I was insured to use preblended oil, i.e. the Tui range. I am not a qualified Aromatherapist, and at present have no intentions of going down that road. They were very helpful, and said that as long as the massage medium I was using was preblended that was fine. The problem only arises if I am blending my own oils, which I don't do. For anyone interested, I am insured with Woodgate & Partners Ltd, and their number is 01622 740040.

On another note,I have recently started using the Tui waxes, after being recommended them on this forum. They are FAB! I now give my clients a choice of oile or the wax, which I think is good to offer. The trial pots are very small, but well worth giving a go, as they don't cost alot!

I have a Public and Professional Treatment liability insurance. It covers the equipment I use (and as Im mobile this is important to me), and all the treatments I do. I am trained as a Beauty Therapist, Reflexologist, and also doIndian Head Massage.
The premium is £47.50.

I got the insurance through an advert in a magazine - can't remember which one, sorry.Not sure about the product liability. Why don't you give them a ring. Im sure they will be able to answer all your questions!!

I have just spoken to Woodgate, and in fact even read them what you have written, but they were adamant that they could not offer cover for preblended oils if I didnt have the relevant qualification to use them, ie Aromatherapy. I assured them that I didn't class it as an Aromatherapy massage, just wanted to use nice waxes etc etc, but the lady I spoke to was not having any of it, she said my qualification must cover their use. I have left it with her that she is going to speak to the Director and call me back.

I told her I was slightly concerned that differing information seems to be given to people - steverobbo, did you call them?

Yes I called them and they said exactly the same thing as they said to you!
Spoke to a chap there who also guaranteed me that they could not offer the cover.
I'm already with Towergate (SMG) and can use oils on clients without aromatherapy but wanted to see what Woodgate could offer me.

They also said that the premium of £47.50 is only if you are a member of FHT.........fair enough but you have to pay a membership fee to FHT and if you add that to the cost of the insurance it's about the same as what i'm paying with Towergate, except that Towergate are a specialist insurance company who only deal with insurance as opposed to membership, courses etc so their level of expertise is somewhat better than others IMO.

To be fair i've never had any probs with Towergate and although their policies can be more expensive I personally feel that you get what you pay for, so i'm happy to pay a little extra if it means that the service i get if a claim is made against me is good. (Friend of mine had a claim made and she said Towergate were excellent in sorting it out for her).

Cheapest is very rarely the best in my experience!

Thanks for replying. Well, at least they were consistent in that case. I currently only pay £41.50 insurance with Embody, along with £58 membership. I may have to go with the SMG quote at £155 though, as they seem to be the only ones that will add the waiver re preblends.

I will certainly let you know if Towergate reply (BTW the lady said the cover was £44 before I started asking her questions - she hadnt asked about memberships to any governing body at that point)
