Massage questions- butts and tips?

I just got back from my first professional massage and have a few questions. Is it normal for them to straight up rub your entire butt? I get that it's a muscle, but the lady removed my towel at one point and went to town on my butt. Felt good...but seemed a little strange. Also, are tips expected and what's the usual rate/percentage? I gave her 5 dollars as that's all the cash I had and she seemed confused. It was 50/hr so %10 tip. Thanks!

Yes, massaging the glutes is normal. A lot of lower back pain and hip discomfort originates in the glute muscles.

Many customers tip, but not all. Typical tips are 15-20%, but I often receive larger and smaller tips. Massage therapists don't expect tips, but we certainly appreciate them.

If the masseuse finds you tight in your legs (i.e. thighs, hamstrings, etc), she will check the buttocks area to see if that's is where the tightness originated. I've gotten plenty of massages and almost every single time they find tightness in my legs they also find even more tightness in my gluteus maximus. So yes, it's completely normal, don't worry she was NOT trying to be pervy or anything.
As for tips, I've never given a tip for a massage before.
