LIMA — Since opening Soothing Touch Massage Studio five years ago, owner Jodi Best said she has come a long way in terms of her abilities and growth as a business.
When Best opened her first location in February 2013, she was working out a small room inside of a nail salon on 3113 Elm St. For a year, she worked on building her clientele and moved into her current location on 1910 W. Robb Ave. Suite 6.
Her current studio has multiple rooms which allows for more than one client at a time and more therapists. She also occassionally works out of the Primrose Retirement Community of Lima on 3500 W. Elm St.
Aside from more space and a bigger staff, Best said she is most proud of how she has been able to hone and grow her skills a therapist.
“I am a very intuitive therapist already so when I work on someone I kind of just tune in to their body and know what to do,” said Best. “But, what has really been an awesome transition is that over the years my skills have really grown and I feel like now if someone comes in with any kind of challenge or condition or ailment of some kind, I just know what to do.”
Best said she is a results-driven therapist and most of her massages are for medical relief more than for relaxation.
“Most times people come to see me because they have an issue with their body,” said Best. “I do more medical massages, but I do relaxation or whatever the person needs. It’s about them when I work on my clients.”
Soothing Touch Massage Studio offers couple, hot stone, prenatal, and infant and pediatric massages. Each massage is an hour long. Best has clients as young as infants and as old as 95.
Before each massage, clients fill out a short form that indicates which massage would be best for their needs. Best only accepts clients with scheduled appointments.
In the next five years, Best said she is looking to expand her business.
“I’ve been considering finishing up my three years of nursing school and eventually become a chiropractor,” said Best. “I would like to have a wellness center where people want to come and don’t want to leave. They can do other spa things like get in the hot tub or have a body wrap, a facial, get an adjustment and a massage.”
