A massage therapist digitally penetrated a 23-year-old woman during her deep tissue massage, then apologized, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
Melvin Buffington, 62, has been charged with first-degree sexual assault and six counts of misdemeanor third-degree assault. He was ordered held on a total bail amount of $80,000. He would have to post 10 percent of that amount, or $8,000, to be released.
Buffington was arrested Monday at his place of work, Oasis Massage & Spa, 689 N. 132nd St., where the alleged assaults occurred. After news of the arrest, at least five more people came forward.
The 23-year-old Lincoln woman told police that on Jan. 12, she went to Oasis for a deep tissue massage. Buffington started to massage her private areas over clothing, prosecutor Eric Fabian said.
Then, Fabian said, Buffington moved the woman’s underwear aside and digitally penetrated her. The woman asked if that was reasonable practice and Buffington said no and apologized, Fabian said.
A 38-year-old woman told police that she was “inappropriately touched” by Buffington during a massage Feb. 15. Information was not available about other alleged incidents that prompted the other misdemeanor charges.
A woman who identified herself as Buffington’s family friend declined to comment outside court Wednesday.
