MADISON (WKOW) -- A massage therapist is facing charges after a client claims he sexually assaulted her.
Dane County court records show 33-year-old Gonzalo Reategui is charged with third degree sexual assault.
Public records show Reategui has been a licensed massage therapist since 2015.
27 News also discovered Reategui had ties to UW-Madison Athletics as a massage therapist.
UW-Madison spokesperson John Lucas told 27 News, Reategui had worked with teams in the past.
"Once UW Athletics learned of the allegation, it suspended its relationship with him," Lucas wrote. "UW Athletics has no information to suggest the allegation relates in any way to our student-athletes."
The allegation comes after a woman told Madison police she hired Reategui for a two-hour massage.
When the massage was almost over, the woman said Reategui began touching her inappropriately below the waist.
The woman told officers Reategui did it twice and both times she said Reategui did not ask for consent and she did not consent to him touching her there.
After he left, the woman said she got a text message from him.
It reads, "I did a bit of tantric at the end. Sorry if I caught you off guard. Itโs a type of treatment designed to explore intimacy when touch has been absent."
The victim told police she never had any conversations with Reategui about wanting that and never mentioned her sexual preferences.
Court records show when police spoke to Reategui, he told the officer he performed a tantric massage on the victim and that it was consensual.
According to the criminal complaint, "Reategui then said, 'A lot of times, you know, as a male therapist, I get this kind of stuff.' Reategui said it has happened in the past before. Detective Hall asked Reategui if he was referring to contact by the police. Reategui said no, this was the first time that has happened."
He told the officer he got a sense the woman might enjoy a tantric massage.
"Just because the way she sort of presented herself at the end, you know, like, I, I, in my profession, been doing this for years, a lot of women sometimes naturally get arousal when it comes to massage therapy," he said.
Reategui explained he normally works his way up to that massage depending how the client is reacting.
โIโve done this for quite a long time, sometimes I just get a sense from some women that donโt have that in their life, and so I proceeded," he said.
When detectives ask Reategui how he was feeling while doing the message, he admitted to being aroused.
โI ainโt gonna lie, yeah, Iโm a man, so I got, sure, I got a little bit arousal too, cause she is feeling it, but Iโm trying to maintain myself, and sure, you know, maybe a time or two I got a little bit too close, but I backed off," he told officers.
Near the end of the interview, Reategui said he understood that detectives were doing their job and stated, โI had a feeling sometimes, I was like yeah, maybe I screwed the pooch on this one.โ
Reategui is expected in court on March 21 for an initial appearance.
