AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department has arrested an Austin massage therapist accused of attempting to sexually assault a female client.

According to the arrest warrant, the pregnant client scheduled a massage at the Viva Day Spa at the 11600 block of Rock Rose Avenue to help with aches and tension due to her pregnancy. The victim reports zoning out during the treatment, which proceeded normally until the man allegedly began massaging her privates before placing his mouth there.

The victim told police that she experienced such a state of shock that she could not immediately tell the man no and also that she didn't call for help out of fear both for herself and her unborn child. According to the warrant, the woman experienced symptoms similar to a panic attack, paid for her massage and then left the parlor. Once at home, the woman called police.

Jonathan Aaron Newcomb, 37, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted sexual assault, a third degree felony. He was released on $10,000 bond later in the day.

According to the spa, Newcomb had been employed at the company's Domain Northside location for a year. Upon learning of the accusation and police report, the company immediately placed him on indefinite suspension.

KXAN reached out to Viva Day Spa, who gave the following statement:

All of us at Viva Day Spa are extremely disturbed by the recent accusation involving a former employee. As a company owned by women with a 95 percent female staff, that has been operating in Austin since 2005, we have always prided ourselves on providing a safe and nurturing space for the entire community over these past 14 years and we will continue to make that our primary objective.

We take this allegation very seriously and the accused individual is no longer employed by our company. All of our employees are vetted before they are hired and we employ stringent and clear guidelines and treatment protocols. We maintain extremely high expectations for our employees to conduct themselves in a way that reflects the values and ethics of our business.

We are cooperating fully with the Austin Police Department in their investigation.
