A massage therapist sexually assaulted a patient during a massage in an Allendale spa, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Matthew Plotkin, 29, of Wyckoff, was charged with one count of sexual assault, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo, in a statement. He was scheduled for a first court appearance Friday.
The arrest stems from an alleged assault during a massage at Hand and Stone Spa, in March, the statement said. During a massage at the spa, Plotkin allegedly engaged in sexual activity with an unidentified person without consent, the statement said.
It is unclear how long Plotkin had been working at the spa and if there were any other incidents. A woman who identified herself as the spa director declined to comment, when reached via phone.
Plotkin's arrest is the latest in a string of area massage therapists arrested for alleged sexual assault.
In August 2018, Chun G. Li, of Leonia, was charged with three counts of criminal sexual contact and a single count of sexual assault. Li allegedly assaulted several women during massages, while working as a massage therapist at Blooming Nails & Spa, in North Haledon. A state official said that Li actually had no license as a masseur.
In November 2018, Christopher Dorman, a massage therapist working in Delaware, was accused of sexual assault, leading to the suspension of his license. Dorman allegedly improperly touched women clients' breasts and genitals and failed to properly cover their bodies during massages, according to a complaint filed by the Department of Justice. Dorman worked as a masseur at Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Wilmington, and Massage Envy in Newark.
