GRAND RAPIDS — A west Michigan massage therapist faces a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in connection with a reported assault during a therapy session.

Grand Rapids police say John Ashby, 54, was arraigned Friday in 61st District Court.

Police say the victim is a 41-year-old and that the incident reportedly occurred Feb. 28 at a spa in Grand Rapids.

Ashby was arrested Thursday at his home. His bond was set at $40,000. An April 7 preliminary examination has been scheduled.

An attorney for Ashby was not listed early Friday in court records.

Police say Ashby is a private contractor and may have worked at other spas in the Grand Rapids area.
