VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Beach massage therapist has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a co-worker.
Media outlets report that a jury recommended the maximum sentence Friday after finding 39-year-old Justin Keith Cornell guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 43-year-old Brianna Armstrong. Authorities say the two worked together at a spa when Armstrong disappeared in May 2015.
Her car was found in a shopping center parking lot next to Cornell's apartment complex six days after she was reported missing. Armstrong's remains were later found in trash bags that had been dumped near Dismal Swamp Creek.
A police report says that Cornell told police that he dated Armstrong from December 2014 through March 2015.
