ALPENA – An open house celebration is happening from 5 to 7 p.m. today and again on Oct. 25 to celebrate a quarter-century of providing healing mind, body, and spirit services in Alpena.
Amy Traylor, owner of Massage Works Natural Health Center and Calm in the Storm, is celebrating 25 years of providing massage services, and 25 years of being in remission from cancer.
“I had lymphoma,” Traylor said. “I’m just really grateful to be healthy and offering what I offer to the community, making people feel better, helping them learn how to find calm in the craziness.”
The celebration is also to introduce new staff and services available to the public to help them navigate their natural health care journey.
At the open house, there will be free munchies, drinks, and tours. Attendees can sign up to win a grand prize giveaway. Each person who attends can also get a free one-card draw from the Angel Oracle Deck, given by Traylor, just for filling out a workshop and service interest handout. There will also be free five-minute samples of fully-clothed massage, relaxation and therapeutic chair and table services, or Reiki balancing energy work.
Attendees also have the option of choosing a mini-spa package for half off, all done today or Oct. 25 at one of the open house celebrations. Package services available include 15-minute chair or table sessions, meditation for 15 to 30 minutes at 5:30 p.m., 12 minutes on a deep tissue foot massage machine, eight or 15 minutes on a PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) healing therapy mat with heat and infrared light, and sound bath music therapy for 15 to 30 minutes at 6:30 p.m. On Oct. 25, paraffin wax dips for your hands will also be offered.
“This is an opportunity for people to get an affordable glimpse at meditation and sound bath therapy, which can really just help people heal and start to take back your life by letting go,” Traylor said.
There will be gift certificate specials on relaxation and therapeutic chair and table services, which includes balancing energy work, and is similar to massage.
According to Traylor, the PEMF mat “heals the body on a cellular level — body and mind.”
It uses heat and infrared light, as well as goggles and bilinear beats “to heal your brain on a cellular level, basically acting as an anti-ager,” she said.
She said Calm in the Storm, which was added onto Massage Works, rounds out the services offered to include meditation, sound baths, and mind and spirit-centered healing.
“The main thing is just mind, body, spirit wellness,” Traylor said. “That just reminds us that we are more than just bodies. We are more than just minds. We need the balance or mind, body, and spirit.”
She said when life gets hectic, it’s time to restore that balance.
“In this crazy world, it seems like it’s go, go, go, do, do, do, but if you take the time to sit and focus on what you want to create, or listen to God … it’s really helpful to sit in the woods and learn how easy it is to meditate,” Traylor said. “I’m not an expert, but I know enough to be able to help people learn how to listen to what is meant for you. Because everybody has something different that matters to them, or something different that they maybe need to heal from.”
She said spending five to 25 minutes sitting and breathing and listening can bring some of the answers to light for each individual person.
“The main gist of Calm in the Storm is to help people love themselves more, forgive the past, and create the future they want,” she said. “If we let ourselves sit and listen once in a while, then we realize what we actually want to do different in the future, instead of just continuing on a path like a robot.”
On Oct. 25, Dr. John Douglas from Illinois will be present to talk about offering holistic health care for the whole family.
He offers bioenergetic stress testing to see the body’s imbalances, and uses homeopathic medicines to correct the imbalances.
In addition to Traylor, other staff members offering services include Brian Reed, Tatjana Torres, and Jodi Clarke.
