My teacher who is a Chiropractor says many of the DCs/PTs use the G5 tools to assist with their soft tissue work. Does anyone have any experience with a G5, or Thumper or Jeanie Rub? The G5 is definitely the higher price but I've had it used on me and it felt pretty effective.

I have experience with all three. I like a thumper and I don't find the cost to be beneficial regarding the G5. I don't really like a Jeanie Rub, but that is just a personal preference.

I still prefer work by hand (no vibrating machines) for my massage clients.

I once went to a chiro who used a vibrating machine on me (might have been the Jeanie rub) but I immediately said, "Get it off me!"

He was like, "Oh sorry, forgot massage therapists don't like electronic devices (vibrating massage tools)."

I said, "No dude, vibration makes me nauseous, I was afraid I was going to toss my cookies!"

So, I'd be careful if you're going to use it on clients... make sure you ask before you apply!

I will never permit one of these devices to be used in our business. The times they have been used on me, I have always felt them to be a waste of time. I think they are popular with chiros, etc. because they require no skill and yet the "massage" can be billed to insurance.

Side note: I have met very, very few DCs that have any significant skill in soft tissue work that resembles what professional MTs are trained to do.

I'm not sure how many DC's actually charge for vibratory massage anymore (speaking as a DC in my area of the U.S.), although many still use it in the session. Personally, I do find vibratory massage good "pre-adjustment", in order to loosen up the musculature and prepare the body for the manual manipluation/adjustment.

I also agree that few DC's work similarily to MT's, unless they go out and garner that education. Unfortunately many DC's feel that providing any work relatively similar to the work an MT does as "below them", which is why few will do it.

However, many chiropractic colleged teach soft tissue techniques and trigger point work - but it is not always extensive.

It is my opinion that the focus of chiropractic is provided with a significantly different energetic focus than what the massage therapist brings to the table, and this is why there is such a discrepency between the soft tissue work you will find between DC vs. MT.
