Hi. I am due for a microdiscectomy on the 26th June. I am scared to say the least. Have a protruding L5/S1 and sciatica since Nov 07. Have tried all conventional treatments and am seeing a chiropractor at the moment who does active release treatment. Is helping a little with the pain but my ability to stretch is practically none existant. I'm a fitness instructor so my health and ability to teach is essential. I would also like to be able to dress with no pain!! My question about the surgery is 1 does it help to relieve stiffness, 2 does the pain go immediately and 3 how quick do you feel normal again? My surgeon is a private one who also does nhs cases. He is recognised as one of the best in my area so feel more confident having him do my surgery. He thinks I will be back teaching in 4 weeks! I find this quite remarkable and would be very interested to hear from anyone having had this surgery and their personal recovery
Look forward to hearing from you all.
