Police detain Russian woman for recruiting girls for prostitution

MINSK, June 29 (Itar-Tass) - Belarusian police on Wednesday detained a Russian woman who recruited six Belarusian women for prostitution in St. Petersburg, a source at the public relations department of the Belarusian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.
An operation to detain the criminal was conducted at the Minsk railway station in a carriage of the Lvov-St. Petersburg train. “The passports of the six Belarusian women were found on the Russian citizen during a search,” the Belarusian Interior Ministry stressed.
Belarusian laws provide for criminal responsibility for persons engaged in recruiting people for sexual and other exploitation. The Russian woman may face up to 12 years in prison under these laws.
The Russian embassy in Minsk hasn’t commented the incident so far.
