The currency exchange chart to the right on this page shows 67.14 (today) from Bangkok Bank. That is the onshore rate and will be about the same from one bank to another. Don't exchange at home.

Absolutely NOT - doing 2 exchanges is serious way to make banks happy!!

GBP is readily accepted at FX booths here.

Very much doubt that as the US$ is weak against all currencies, including the Thai baht. Carry any currency that is considered major in Thailand and you should get a favorable exchange rate. This includes US Dollars, Pound Sterling, Euro, AU Dollars, etc.

Fair advise, but as K2 pointed out in his post, don't change your GBP into Dollars. You already have a strong currency to take to LOS, and as stated you always get a better (onshore) rate when you change your money in LOS.

Changing your money in the UK is a bad move, and you will always get the lower offshore rate.

Absolutly right. I got a much better rate changing GBP to Baht then USD to Baht. The booths in Patong even took my 5 pound notes. I was getting just over 70B at some places last month.

I've found that you'll get a variety of rates from each booth.

Don't shell out at the first one you see.

My other experience is that changing money at the airport gives you the least favorable rate.
Only change enough to get by until you can get into town.

As everyone says, hang onto to your stirling. Pounds are king in LOS.

Hi Follks, I will be travelling to LOS from the UK at the end of December,. I can easily bring all my spending money in cash. But is this safe to do? How are travellers cheques received in LOS

Are Euro's easily exchanged as I can bring all my spending money in Euro's rather than have to delcare it to the taxman here in the UK

carrying a large amount of cash is a risk IMO. Travellers checks i have never used. I take a minimal amount of cash for exchange and then just use debit cards. This is also a risk because it is my money but never had a CC. Works for me.

I found a lot of the cash machines ran out of money. You could of course use your card at a booth with your passport as ID but I'd rather loose cash then my passport while on holiday.
Take cash but keep a good hold on it and use a safe in your guesthouse. Maybe I've been lucky but I have never had a problem.

Any number of ways works for different people, but I have always taken cash, put it in the room safe on arrival, and changed it for baht every few days.
I always take a debit card for back up and a credit card for emergencies.

Last time I took a small amount of bahts with me. And all my money in travellers checks. Its really useful and its better to loose them than cash, you can get the money back!
