Most popular usage?

Hello friends with knowledge, I'm sending an order in for some oils and was just wondering which you all feel are most used/preffered for general de-stress/relaxation massage. I've mixed and matched in the past and picked ok, but thought a little advice on the best basic collection myay be in order.
1) So what would your favourite base oil be?

2) What would your top 5 oils be?

3) What do you store your bottles in?

I use grapeseed as a base. It's hard to pick just five oils, but if you wanted to go with relaxing and balancing with the least contraindications, I would pick lavender, geranium, rose, mandarin and probably chamomile (good for sensitive skin, calming digestives, muscles, etc.).

My essential oils are stored in a purpose made box. Just bought a new one that holds 48 oils.

I use sweet almond oil for my carrier oil but you have to be aware if you have an allergy to nuts. But as Aromababe has stated grapesead is the best if u have the nut allergy.

Regarding the oils like Aromababe has stated it is very hard to choose 5 oils. But Lavender would be my first choice as it has so many good properties.
Sweet Majoram is another good one for the muscles but you have to be careful regarding Pregnancy & low blood pressure in prolonged use.
Clary sage is another favourite of mine and would blend well with Lavender. Although be ware! (Can cause vivid dreams in some people.)
Geranium would be another as it is a good natural balancer.
Frankincense is another favourite of mine although it can be expensive. I pay around £6.00 for 10ml. seems allot but it will blend well with Lavender & Geranium.

It is very hard and this is only some of my favourite oils.

I have been blending allot of oils trying to come up with good blends as my exams are looming up very soon.

A good book might be the Fragrant Pharmacy by Valerie Ann Worwood.

My oils are stored in a special case that holds 48 oils like Aromababe.

Thank you both for your input, I think my choices have been pretty good. I generally buy almond & grapeseed, Lavender 'always' and then a mixed selection for different purposes. I guess i was after a little confirmation that i'm on the right tracks.
Could you tell me where you got your bottle cases from please,and how much they cost? I keep mine in a wooden box with lid,but would prefer something proper for the pupose.

I used to have a 24 bottle box, but now have around 40 in my collection, and Quinessence was the best value for the bigger box as far as I could see. Best thing to do is check back on oil suppliers mentioned on this forum and look at all their websites for the different boxes they do.

Hi Lesley............just looked at that site and the boxes look great and very well priced. I have been 'managing' with a box which holds 30 essentials and 5 50ml carrier oils from my friends at tree-harvest.......cost me £18.50 + VAT. It has been brilliant, dropped it once and my father had to mend it but it is a like an old friend. As I am now going to be working in the healing centre two days a week I am going to treat myself to a larger one. TH do a great one which holds 42 x 10ml bottles, 10 x 5ml bottles, 4 x 250ml bottles and 10 x 100mls. I think it is about £55 but hopefully it will see me out.

To answer the original question my favourite oils are Benzoin, Neroli, Petitgrain, Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang .......and if I can have a 6th I would have to choose Jasmine. I have to say that I also love Frankincense and Geranium (I use a gorgeous moisturiser containing these two oils every day). I also love the citrus oils, particularly Mandarin, Tangerine and Grapefruit. Another favourite of mine is a High Altitude Lavender which is sooooo pungent. In fact I am just passionate about them all!!!!

Actually, Yasmin, my very most favourite oil is Neroli, followed by Petitgrain (must be the orange blossoms), but I thought you meant general good all round oils to use on clients and as you used the word 'basic' only included Rose as a precious oil, thinking you maybe had a budget.

I don't carry my base oil/lotion/cream around with me. I tend to buy litre bottles and keep a supply in each clinic (I'm not a mobile therapist).

Hi. I would find it hard to choose, I have so many. I have a wooden box that holds loads and it cost me about £70 but I have had it three years now and it should last forever.

My choices for deep relaxation:

1. Clary Sage (mind numbing) not to be mixed with alcohol
2. Frankincense - Deepens breathing, deep relaxation
3. Sandalwood
4. Roman Chamomile - reduces anxiety and stress
5. Orange - a good stress buster and natural sleep enhancer

High altitude lavender, marjoram, rose otto, grapefruit, fir balsam, would also be on the list, but I could go on!

surprised no one has mentioned Sunflower as a base oil -
I am using a great organic one and it is fab - really really easyily absorbed , hardly any scent and good "slip" for massage.

base formula do nice boxes too - I thought they were good value when Ibought mine.

oils : lavender , sweet orange , roman chamomile ( make a great blend) geranium - i like palmarosa too

I've used it! It is nice and also cheap compared to others.

I also got my box from Base Formula and many clients comment on it, including one yesterday. It cost me a lot but I don't regret it.

Sunflower is my all time fave base oil, followed by peach kernel.

Top five oils:

Benzoin
Frankincense
Palmarosa
Neroli
Geranium

Least favourites: blue chamomile - smells like sweaty feet and stains the towels, vetiver - I quite like this woody smell, but one client insisted on sitting up to see what I was smoking! Even when she sat up she didn't believe I didn't have some evil weed somewhere! Honestly!

I like organic sunflower oil but my favorites have to be, apricot, jojoba and Rosehip.

My top 5 essential oils would be:

Wild Lavender
Rose Otto
Frankinsence
Sandalwood
Balsam Fir

But to be fair I love all my essential oils

My top retailers are: Fragrant Earth, Aromantic, Quinessence and Absolute aromas, although I am always on the look out for top quality oils and suppliers.

I usually try to use a blend of carrier oils and really love using Grapeseed, Jojoba and Avocado. For a general base oil though, I would have to go for Grapeseed.

My top 5 oils for relaxation would have to be:

Neroli
Sandalwood
Jasmin
Frankinsense
Cypress

Strangely I don't really like the smell of Lavender, Rose or Geranium. I think that is one of the nicest things about Aromatherapy, that everyone has unique preferences.

I have a padded carrycase which I use for mobile storage, I do need something bigger though as I find it frustrating that I need to carry all my base oils and accessories separately.
