So I went out on my own in October. Found a nice quiet office suite in a nice quiet building in a residential area. Or so I thought. I was one of the only tenants in the building. A month later, other tenants starting moving in. The suite I'm in also houses my landlord and another company. My landlord and the other guys are not there much but when they are they're LOUD! And they don't care if they disturb me or my clients. I can also hear people talking in the suite next door. This space is NOT for me! One of my clients even complained about the smell in the restroom this morning. I don't know what these guys eat but it's rotten! I've fixed the noise problem with a fan, music and a sound machine but I'm still not happy with the environment. I want a place to myself.
I found a nice suite in the town that I live outside of. It's right in Downtown and I would be the only LMBT the town has ever had! The space consists of a reception area with a restroom and a separate shower (that will be the stock room). There's a door in the reception area that leads to a BIIIIIGGGG room. It's about 20'x30'!!!
The floors need some work. I'm thinking about using plank vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood. In the big room I want to set up my massage table, a massage chair and a thai massage mat. I'm thinking of offering "lunch break chair massages" to the folks that work in town. I'm also thinking about bringing in a yoga instructor once a week and offering yoga classes! My town has never had massage therapy or yoga...ever!
I'll find out this Friday if the new landlord is willing to work with me on the monthly rate. Utilities are not included in the rent so I'm trying to get him to drop the rate $100.
My lease runs out at my current place the end of March, which is paid already for that month. I paid the rent this month where I'm at now and the new landlord has agreed to giving me 30 days rent free to fix up the new place. So I'll stay where I am this month, stay where I am in February and work on the new place and come March 1st I'll move into the new space which means I'll lose the rent money that I already paid on my current space. I don't even care about losing the money because I want out ASAP!
Anyway, I just wanted to share. I don't have many other pros to talk to about my situation.
Here's the new place. It's in a shopping center in the main intersection in town but on the side of the building. I think this is good because it's just me and I don't want a lot of walk-in traffic since I do operate by appointment only.
