So I'm moving on Saturday, and it seemed like I should probably start packing, even though as moves go this one will be easy since I just fucking moved last fall!!!! I mean, um, since anything I didn't really think I needed is still packed from the last move.
My biggest issue this time is Clothes. My weight has shifted over the last couple years, and I have clothes in three different sizes, and some can be packed away longterm and some can come out of retirement. My closets are a holy mess, and I'm downsizing so am losing a large one, so I need to be organized about how I pack.
I started with the guestroom closet and dresser...first linens, and why do I own so many pillows? and then the clothes were sorted by size and I moved to the closet in my room...and I realized I couldn't really do much with the clothes in there until I got the shoes and purses out, they were in the way of everything.
Some of you already know this about me... I have a real fondness for shoes and purses. I had been thinking there were a lot of shoes I never wear, and was determined to be quite ruthless about what I kept...and I got rid of six pairs, and that's a big deal for me, even if three of them were just worn out and the other three were completely uncomfortable.
And then I turned my attention to the purses, especially the ones that don't get out much...but I decided that if Frequency of Use were a valid factor I shouldn't have kept the thigh-high boots either, so there is no need to get rid of any purses.
I realized that my whole Shoe/Purse problem can be summed up in one word....storage. I need more-organized storage, so my closet isn't so cluttered with them. I need big hooks to hang the long-strapped purses. I need shoe trees. There's no reason my closet can't be organized, I just need to plan it better.
I'm very unsettled, being surrounded by chaos and clutter. There are piles of clothes all over the guestroom, empty plastic bins in the living room, and the dining area is full of boxes. "Shoes/Purses" is the most popular label so far. I thought I had enough wardrobe boxes, but I also have a fondness for coats, and they take up a lot of room.
